Hi, all!

I've got a piece in the newest issue of Theatre Survey (60.2) about the infamous rival productions of Romeo and Juliet in the fall of 1750.

The article excavates the circumstances around the rivalry--long interpreted as arising from a conflict between David Garrick and Spranger Barry--to show instead the dominate role women's reproductive lives played in the event.

It's pretty cool, and you can check out an excerpt here, or access the full version with a database subscription.
