This week I finished revising the chapter I mentioned last week, as well as continuing to work toward two pieces with August 1 deadlines. I was able to get some feedback on the chapter that I'll start working to incorporate tomorrow.
I'm realizing that I write these maximal drafts for myself with everything I could possibly say in them; all the twisty trails I went down laid out so other people can follow, foregrounding evidence over interpretation until everything is mapped. The work then becomes to take this and figure out what needs to be said and what doesn't, to reshape and craft it into a clear and well made form, to create one clear path rather than many breadcrumb trails. The struggle is getting the perspective to do this with time remaining to me.
It's curious to have been a writer for this many years and not to have realized this about myself, but this is partly why I started to write about writing.
As promised, I'll include a quick note on costuming pregnancy on shows set in the 18th century in another post.
